A Week on the French Riviera: Investing in Climate Solutions with Atlas Coalition

At Atlas Coalition, we know that fighting climate change takes more than capital — it requires community, collaboration, and inspiration.

In August 2024, we hosted an exclusive retreat at the stunning Rocabella, located on the French Riviera near Nice. This gathering brought together our investors, entrepreneurs, and climate innovators for an immersive experience focused on advancing breakthrough climate solutions.

Arrival at Villa Rocabella — A Perfect Setting for Climate Action

Guests arrived at Rocabella, welcomed by lush Mediterranean greenery, the soothing sounds of nature, and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. Surrounded by umbrella pines, olive and fig trees, the villa’s Renaissance-style architecture created a timeless and inspiring environment for meaningful dialogue and bold ideas.

Connecting a Global Community of Changemakers

Our retreat brought together over 20 angel investors, tech entrepreneurs, and climate visionaries from around the world. From blockchain-enabled biodiversity projects to advanced carbon sequestration materials and medical platforms advancing health in Southeast Asia, the diversity of expertise sparked dynamic conversations and new partnerships—fueling the collaborative spirit at the core of Atlas Coalition.

Day 1: Envisioning Sustainable Cities of the Future

We kicked off with an update on The Atlas Capital Fund’s progress and future plans. Participants then collaborated in creative workshops imagining the sustainable cities of 2042, exploring ideas like floating tax-free islands, vertical farms, and climate-smart food systems driven by innovative technology.

The day ended with a joyful dinner on the villa’s terrace and a private piano-jazz concert, blending culture and community.

Day 2: Sailing Toward Ocean Conservation

The highlight of day two was a peaceful sail aboard a historic 1920s yacht along the Mediterranean coast. Guests snorkeled near the protected marine area of the Giens Peninsula, experiencing firsthand the vibrant underwater seagrass ecosystems that climate action aims to preserve.

Jean-Baptiste Rudelle, founder of Criteo and sponsor of Rocabella, shared inspiring insights on the future of climate tech, ocean conservation, and gender equality. We also showcased pitches from Atlas portfolio startups, featuring innovations in carbon capture, river plastic cleanup, ethical marketplaces, and wildlife conservation through play-to-impact gaming.

Day 3: Reflection and Renewal

Guests concluded the retreat with a calming yoga and breathwork session overlooking the sea, grounding the inspiration gained throughout the week. Reflections and renewed commitments closed the event, with plans to continue collaboration and accelerate impact.

Why This Retreat Matters

This retreat was more than an event — it was a catalyst for change. By fostering connections among investors and entrepreneurs passionate about climate solutions, Atlas Coalition strengthens the ecosystem needed to scale innovation and impact worldwide.

As the villa’s gates closed behind us, the conversations and commitments sparked here were only just beginning. We look forward to welcoming this vibrant community again next year as we continue to fund and celebrate climate tech breakthroughs shaping our shared future.
